Geo-Politics, Markets & Energy—Cutting Through the Noise So You Don’t Have To

👉 Hit play. Think smarter. Laugh harder. Maybe even profit.

Marie Antoinettes, Spare Me Your Double Standards

When Trump talks about annexing Canada and Greenland—both NATO territories—and NATO’s Secretary General, Mark Rutte, not only sits in silence but also showers Trump with deference, the hypocrisy is glaring. The likes of Xi and Putin surely see it.

A rules-based order? Really? Whose rules? Look at the map I sent earlier—those making the rules seem to be shrinking. The world isn't as simple as music concert promoters would have you believe.

As for Starmer’s speech on Russia yesterday—comedic if it weren’t so ignorant and self-serving.

GEO-POLITICS

The world has changed. The longer the Russia-Ukraine war drags on, draining European strength, the harder and faster we fall. The psychology in Europe is eerily similar to pre-WWI: emotional, uninformed, jingoistic, and lacking realism.

Wars accelerate the decline of nations—just look at Britain after WWI. America likely understands this now. The problem? The vested interests of the last decade have dug us into a hole too deep to climb out of.

The idea that Russia is a major threat to Europe is nonsense. As Peter Hitchens put it: "It's just like WMD." The claim that Russia—outspent on weapons 3-to-1 by Europe—is poised to recreate Stalin’s empire is as absurd as Blair’s 2003 claims about Saddam.

What is true, and concerning, is that Russia likely doesn’t care about us anymore. They used to bring money to Mayfair, Courchevel, and Monaco. Now? They don’t. That’s on us.

Just ask: Who has profited from making Russia the enemy over the past decade?

The recent ceasefire attempt was a transparent trap, and Putin dodged it. Donbass and Crimea are Russian—under any Kosovo precedent, they belong to Russia.

If we’re debating double standards, listen to Trump on Greenland:
"Denmark is very far away. A boat landed there 200 years ago or something, and they say they have rights to it. I don't know if that's true. I don’t think it is, actually. We really need it for national security—maybe you’ll see more soldiers there."

Really??!!!

Putin's goals are clear:

  1. NATO must not expand into Ukraine.

  2. Ukraine must be demilitarized.

  3. Russian-speaking regions in the East should be independent, free from Ukrainian nationalism.

  4. The bioweapons issue must be addressed.

If Ukraine arms itself again to attack Russia, then Russia will push to the Dnieper, maybe even Odessa. If they lose too many men, they’ll escalate with more powerful weapons. Meanwhile, the world will move on, the U.S. will retreat inward, and Europe will decay slowly.

PORTFOLIO MACRO & POSITIONING

Nutstuff’s 3rd 2025 "What If" remains highly contrarian—no machine-driven Twitter noise or sell-side groupthink.

UK Energy Strategy: The Contrarian Bet

Let’s get one thing straight: Economic success depends on low-cost energy. Ed Miliband’s Net Zero agenda? UK economic suicide. No debate.

  • The oil & gas sector contributes £25 billion to the UK economy.

  • It supports around 200,000 jobs—now under threat from government policies making investment impossible.

If you won’t listen to me, listen to Rob West & the team at THUNDER SAID. They predict a major U-turn in UK North Sea oil & gas policy as the UK and Europe backtrack on their kamikaze energy decisions.

"Energy policy is defense!"

Imagine the UK’s gas price incentive dropping from $13.5/mcf to $7/mcf. Factor in a 60-65% tax rate and a 12% WACC—the shift is massive.

Nutstuff UK Energy Basket: A Mix of High-Risk & Low-Risk Bets

  • Diversified Energy (DEC LN) – 8% yield

  • AJ Lucas (AJL AU) – a NW UK fracking play

  • Pantheon (wait for US listing in H2’25)

  • Harbour (HBR LN), Reabold (now breaking out!), Tullow, Serica, Kistos

BIG TECH RE-RATING

Tech bulls often argue that commodity investors need the Nasdaq to crash to justify their thesis. Fair enough.

The MAG 7 dominate because they account for:

  • 20-40%+ of marginal S&P earnings growth over the past few years.

  • 100% of incremental S&P earnings growth in the last decade.

That said, Nutstuff sees two key risks:

  1. China's threat in AI and semiconductors.

  2. Big Tech’s rising capital intensity, leading to lower margins and inflated cost bases.

Tesla

Bears never mention PowerWalls or humanized robots—big misses.

Also, Tesla just partnered with Baidu to integrate Baidu’s mapping tech into FSD V13.

Palantir & Qualcomm

Palantir is now running Ontology & AI on Qualcomm's edge computing platforms.

The Nvidia Problem

The worst-kept secret in tech? Everyone is trying to escape Nvidia’s grip by building their own chips.

But with Nvidia’s product cadence, it won’t happen anytime soon.

Nutstuff still prefers AI inference at the network edge and nuclear power—both cheap, both underinvested.

DIGITAL ASSETS

George Olver at SYCAMORE GAP has done an incredible job since launching in 2024—solid returns, proving crypto can be legitimate.

Bitcoin: The Thomas the Tank Engine Analogy

Think of blockchain as railroads—faster, more efficient. Right now, the carriages (tokens) are filled with hype and nonsense. Many trains crashed.

But the tracks work. Now we need better “carriages” (real use cases). Blockchain is the next evolution of finance. It will take time, but fear is temporary, greed is permanent.

Biggest correlation to watch? You’ll see…

NUTSTUFF LOTFW

Tariffs & LVMH
Bernard Arnault must be furious at Trump. Americans drinking their own sickly sweet Zinfandel Rosé instead of Whispering Angel? That won’t last long.

UK MAGA – Make Aberdeen Great Again
(SERICA / SQZ LN) created something powerful. Watch it:
🔗 A Town Called Bruce

Random Thought: Net Zero Perspective
If Earth’s timeline were a 24-hour clock, humans have existed for just 6 seconds.

UK Reality Check
"Who would have thought taxing people into poverty, wasting money on Ukraine, and funding a bloated public sector full of workshy bin-slugs would lead to economic failure?"

Guess what?!

  • Net Zero has to go.

  • Scrapping NHS England (Cameron’s Folly) won’t be enough.

Final Thought

The world is shifting. Contrarian ideas today will be mainstream tomorrow. Keep your eyes open.
